I am wanting to get a set of wheels and tires for my SD. OEM on my truck are 20". I wanting to drop down 18" with a tire size that is almost same diameter as OEM which is 34.1", which will give me more sidewall, also I don't want to extend to much out past the fenders as it is now. I know I will gain a little going from an 8" to 9" wheel.
Couple of questions I have:
-Does anyone know what the "Tire Load Capacity" is on the stock 20" wheels? The reason I ask is the wheel I'm looking out comes in a Standard with 3600 lb tire load capacity and it is available in what they call the HD model with a 4500 lb tire load capacity.
-Recommendation on a tire size for this for an 18" wheel to keep it close to stock diameter of the 20" wheels with 275/65 which is 34.1"
Look to see what tire size choices were available from Ford for your truck’s year and make - usually you can get, say 18”, 19”, or 20”, which are generally interchangeable

The load rating for the LT275/65R20E tire is 3750 lbs. max @ 80 pos cold. The 20” wheel’s load rating is 3590 lbs.
Rather than go by “size” when comparing tires, I prefer to go revs / mile. Ford cites 600 revs / mile for the LT275/65R20E A/S, and 599 revs / mile for the A/T. The Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 275/75R18E (4080 lbs. @ 80 psi) is spec’d at 595 revs / mile.
