New guy here. I've had my Ex for a few months now. It is a 2002 Limited V10 4X4 with 215K on the clock. I bought it with 211K, so I am still getting used to this vehicle. It is my first truck of this size. I mainly use it to pull my 24 foot travel trailer that is about 6k fully loaded. I also like to commute with it once a week just to drive it a bit.
Here is what I have done:
New tires - stock size Les Schwab all terrain (similar to the coopers at discount tire or pep boys)
All new ball joints
New tire rod ends
New pitman arm
New Red Head steering gear
New shocks (monroe reflex)
New steering stabalizer (stock size replacement)
Front sway bar end links
Front sway bar bushings
Hellwig rear sway bar
Changed brake pads
New front rotors - Going to put rears on this week
All new plugs and COPS
Front end alignment by local shop "adjusted toe" camber/caster "in spec" ( I know there is a lot of range on the spec)
After all of this, the wandering is about 75% better. I can actually cruise at 70mph+ on the freeway without too many corrections.
Anyway, my issue now is a vibration/shaky issue with the truck. The seats and center console shake really bad at freeway speeds and it is still pretty shaky at neighborhood speeds as well. I have already had the tires rebalanced.
I know the problem could be many things, but I was hoping for a little guidance. Thanks in advance for any help.
Do you have access to another set of tires just to definitely rule out your new tires? I bought new General Grabbers about 2.5 years ago as summer tires (have studded winter tires). After putting them back on the first Spring I had them, all four were way out of balance (from just sitting all winter; never had that happen); drove horrible. Three shops tried to balance them. One was replaced under warranty. They were balanced enough to drive tolerably, but I still have minor shaking.
So.... if possible, try another set of tires just to make sure your tires aren’t the issue.

I wish I had another set of tires to try. I had them re balanced a few months after they were installed. They said 3 of 4 were out of balance, so I don't know. I have a feeling it is the tires, but it could be the u-joints...

I don't suggest throwing parts at it, but if they are the originals it's time to service them. They last a long time but not forever. I've learned the hard way that u joints are an area that require preventative maintenance. They aren't very forgiving when they fail, however they do tend to warn you. Crawl under there and check that slip yoke real good.
My 2000 V10 Ex 4x4 was shaking the other day. It turned out it was due to a misfire.
Thanks, I thought about that too. There was a miss when I bought it, so I replaced all the plugs and COPS (cheap amazon ones). Codes cleared and passed emissions.
No check engine light now, but there could still be a miss...
