our junkyard flathead started faster than i planned, i was in the cab when it started. all we did was clean the lifter valley and pan. we had a false start with dizzy 180 off, so it got well gased up before the first start.
And here is the thread (with a video) of my '49 F3 starting for the first time in 48 years. I love that cartoon.
It sure is rewarding to hear these old engines start. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ith-video.html
Great stories guys!!
I got to experience it twice with my truck; once with the original straight 6, and again when I lit the big Caddy off for the 1st time.
The original 6 actually fired up pretty easy, I dribbled some gas down the carb, hotwired the ignition and let 'er rip. The old 6 ran great. Years later when I fired the Caddy up I only had about 6" of pipe on it. I knocked a couple of pictures off the den wall and the wife wasn't well pleased. It was a great evening!
