I just brought home my dad's '02 Excursion and the driver's side mirror does not adjust from the remote switch. I can hear the motor work but it doesn't move.I took the glass out and noticed that there might be some pins missing. The passenger side works fine. I can't find an exploded diagram anywhere to find out what's really missing. Any ideas?
That's too bad. I guess I'll just need to find a broken mirror someone is selling. Replacing an entire mirror for a few needed cheap parts makes as much sense as replacing an engine for a few missing bolts.
You have joined a forum that consists of Ex owners who love their vehicles and will do anything to assist others to keep them on the road. You asked for advice and then seemed to not like what you were told. Remember you have a 17 year old vehicle that is going to need TLC and you will have to spend money, some times a lot of it If you give us some info about your Ex, how many miles, model, engine etc many of us might be able to help you out. We are a family here and we try to help each other Just my two cents
My Excursion is a 2002 2WD XLT with 7.3L Powerstroke that has only 104K miles on it so far. My dad bought it new. He passed away nearly four years ago. I just brought it home after a more than 1400 mile journey which was anything but uneventful.
I do appreciate the help that is offered but I'm not one who just tosses things away just because of some minor item that goes bad. I look for the most economical method to fix them. If I was I would not belong to any discussion forum and would be driving the newest thing out there.
No, I don't want to spend $$$ if the needed parts only cost a few bucks. The mirrors are otherwise in good shape.
No worries. I didn't know if that was an option for you.
I like the increased visibility of the '08's over the ones Ford put on our rigs, so I've upgraded all of my rigs. Unfortunately I've given all of my mirrors away already, otherwise I would offer them to you.

I appreciate the the thought. I currently have to watch my budget as I've spent nearly $2K in various items to get it home.
I have the paddle mirrors on my Ex. You know, the little non towing mirrors that no one is sure why Ford put on these things? Yeah, those. I picked up a set of tow mirrors like yours off Facebook marketplace for $30. You are welcome to have my paddle mirrors once I swap em. I would think that even if the internals aren’t the same, the mechanism would function the same and at least give you a donor mirror for dissection.
that said, you should also be able to find a set or even a single replacement mirror fairly cheap. Everyone upgrading to 08+ makes the supply and demand for these old ones cost effective. Probably cheaper to replace than fix....easier too.
Thanks for the offer Ryan but I'm not sure they will have what I need. I took a screen shot from a Youtube video that shows the three white pins I'm missing. I guess I'll never know what happened to them while my dad owned it.
Here's the part number from Tasca Ford parts (4C7Z-17K707-BA or 4C7Z-17K707-AA). That's just the mirror, it's 74 or 75 bucks depending on right or left side, go figure? You could probably call them and ask if they come with the connectors.
