My EX is in the shop getting a Warren Diesel transmission! I went with it for a few reasons, mostly it had a 1 yr unlimited all inclusive warranty, an additional 3 yr parts warranty and it had a a higher end converter and billet internals. If it is the original transmission, it went almost 270k. I was a bad owner and followed old school thought on high mileage transmissions! I have had mixed results flushing high mileage transmissions over the years.
As far as the OP question, the stock converter is great if you aren't tuning it hard and driving it hard. The choices out there are interesting and well pocket hard! From what I gathered a stock converter starts around $500 from a wholesaler and the higher end ones I found start around $1500.
I just hope it survives better than the one I have now.
Magnetic particles galore
Existing 5R110 tag (not sure if its original, Im the second owner)

Good question. This dead tranny has 143895 miles on it.
BTW I believe this truck had 35" tires on original gears most of it's life. I have 295/70R18 tires for the last few years.
