I take it you have tried to lube the cable and it did not help?
Do you know what the cable ends look like both the outside and the inside one more than anything.
I am thinking if you know what the ends are on the inner one and can match that part up you may not need the outer cable if that ends were different.
I also want to say I have seen on line auto parts stores have just the inner cable and you cut to the size needed just need to know the ends it has.
Sorry to say I never had the trany ends out of my stick tranys to see what the ends were like.

Even though it's a little more expensive, sometimes it pays to go ahead and get one from the local parts store. If it doesn't fit you can take it back.
The problem with the newer (1973 and later) speedo cables is how they attach to the speedo. Prior to 1973, they threaded on, but 1973 and newer use a clip type affair.
