I am reworking the exhaust on my 351W and I was looking for recommendations on mufflers that are high flow but not obnoxious loud.
The exhaust is true dual from long tube headers. It's 2-1/2" (if my memory is correct). The existing mufflers are kind of generic Chinese baffle types from a local auto-parts store. Was hoping to get better flow but not wake up the neighborhood when the truck starts.
Magnaflow. Lots of flavors and case sizes to choose from. They are a 'straight through' design for high flow. The bigger and longer the case, the quieter.
I ended up going with some cheap patriot long tube glass packs. I have a duel exhaust coming off of 2.5" tri-y headers. It doesn't sound as good as a resonator or a 3.5" exhaust but it still sounds decent. However, the flow is very nice. I kept the piping short. They turn down and out right before the rear tires, under the bump-side foot board.
what does the inlet look like? some of the header mount glasspacks ive had in the past they just take a regular glasspack with inlet flange and all and stick in a collector and weld together
I've got 28" thrush glasspacks on 2-1/2" header back duals. It gets loud when I stand on it, but at idle, you can barely hear it running from inside the house. Even standing next to it it's not loud. But definitely has a low tone rumble that carries.
