Anyone have an idea where I would find a place to tap into a 5.4 in a 2005 F-250 to add an aftermarket coolant temperature sender and a spot to tap in for a mechanical oil pressure gauge? I'm adding a Flex-a-Lite 274 fan setup this week and really want to know where the temp is running so I can get the controller in the right spot as far as temp goes.
Pull the coolant temp straight form the trucks computer through the obdii port you can get pretty much everything you would want or need besides oil pressure and you don’t need and oil pressure gauge anyway. Look in to some options for this edge CTS 2 scangauge 2 or one of the smart phone apps. Do not I REPEAT DO NOT put the e fan in your truck unless you want less cooling ability hotter ac and a bunch of annoying fan noise the e fan can’t move nearly as much air as the stock fan. If the stock fan or clutch needs to be replaced fix it and send the e fan back waste of time and money.
The computer gives you an actual accurate numbers in °f it’s not like the factory gauges where as long as the temp is between a certain threshold it reads in the middle. But if you want to downgrade your fan and add a standalone gauge go for it sounds like your mind is made up.
I pulled the clutch fan from my 92 F-150, with a 306, GT40 heads, and a bunch of other mods with a MK VIII fan and a Dakota Digital controller. Never had an overheating problem even when towing or sitting and idling working traffic control.
Torque App Pro with Bluetooth dongle. Works great with all my vehicles as I can use it on any one of them anytime I want. It will monitor whatever your vehicle has available thru the OBDII port. App was $10 and dongle was $30. Plug and play!
A little update on the Efans, cooling is just fine, a/c is ice cold even in this SE Texas heat..... so I guess it must have just been good fortune that this setup worked the way it was intended......
oh, and pulling a loaded trailer just a shade under 6,000 lbs wasn’t an issue either......
