For the last week or two, my computer has been giving me trouble. Whenever I'm on the internet, websites seem to load ok, but when I try to navigate any site, it's wicked slow. I can use my mouse roller to scroll down a page and it takes awhile, there is a delay there. Also, any site I type words into, the letters are delayed. Like right now, I can type a sentence, the cursor will move with my letters, but the screen doesn't show the letters for a few seconds. I cleaned out all the cookies and temp files. It seemed to happen all of a sudden, what should I do?
This might not directly affect your rams performance, but when was the last time you defragmented your system and ran a disk cleanup? What OS are you running? It should be in the accessories folder (start, programs, accessories, system tools). How many programs do you have running in the lower right hand corner of your screen? I find mine will slow when I have too much running in the background. Also, you should check your startup folder to see whats in it, the less, the better (more free memory).
Also, you should update your antivirus software and run a complete system check. Do you have any spyware software? I find that it can also slow it down. I clean my computer every day with both Ad-Aware and Spybot.
Sounds like your service provider might be blocking/filtering some ports.
Probably not your PC - but the trickle down effect of what your provider is doing to handle viruses.
I used to have that problem, until I switched to Mozilla (www.mozilla.org) I run firebird, but others need all the features. Mozilla is a MUCH cleaner browser and does not bog itself down like internet explorer does. Firebird is only 6.8 MB, and the full featured version is about 13, and takes about 30 min for me to download. And if you dont like it, just delete the folder, and every trace of it is gone.

Besides checking for spyware, etc. adding a ram freeing program would be helpful. If you are running Win XP, go to www.download.com and type "free ram" in the search box. I use Freeram XP Pro and it really helps speed things up. I more than doubled my usable RAM after installing it....and it's free to download and use.
Like said before, spyware adds stuff to your computer that you do not want and can also cause harm. To simplify, I'd also search download.com for Adaware, as suggested. I use Spyware Baster, also. For it, go to www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html .
Good luck.

Hooray for Linux! Too bad not may know about it because Win-doze is always installed on new PC's. I had redhat on an old 486 that would stay on for months at a time.... oh well, hard drive went out on it a while back- all 350 megs of it.
MustangGT221 let me know how you fix yours. Mine has been doing this for 2 weeks.I have done just about everything mentioned but still nothing. What anti-virus company are you using? My computer started acting up right after I recieved a update from Mcafee. My laptop works great on all sites, but I use norton for it.

I'm setting up a system right now with linux, a guy I used to work with in the Army likes linux, says its great for hacking, almost no virus problems and it almost never crashes. I've used it a little and I found that it would run DOS better than windoze does nowdays, yes there is a lot of DOS out there yet. I downloaded linux 9 and its a lot easier to install than it used to be, I've read reviews that say linux SuSe 8+ is real good, And I'm watching to see if Lindows goes anywhere
A good utility program can solve this also. I run Norton system works and it does just about everything. Running Windoctor from Norton usually allways fixes problems like this. Norton checks for viruses, defrags disk and many other things. If you are running XP, and this is happening, press ctrl+alt+del. I am not running XP here so I can't tell you the exact names of things, but there are 4 tabs. One tab give you a graph showing your CPU load, another shows you what is running and how much of the CPU it is taking. If there you see something hoging all of your resorces, that is usually the problem.
