I have a 93 bronco xlt and it is ate up with rust. the finders are ate up, the radiator support is ate up, my tailgate, my spring towers and now my brake lines. ive replaced the spring towers with new ones from bronco graveyard and ive been looking at other parts but when do i call it enough? do i keep fixing it or cut and run? ive alo also just put a new motor in it.
how deep are your pockets?
if you calculate the cost of rust repair,
would that money be better spent on a
good southern truck? or does this truck
have sentimental value worth restoring?
I'm almost in the same boat as you. Mine mostly just needs quarter panels and fenders. The rockers aren't bad, but if I do 1/4s and fenders I might as well do rockers too. I'm guesstimating the body work and paint will cost $4K-$5K and then my Bronco will probably be worth about $4K-$5K. Then what? The engine or transmission may die? So I'm debating on fixing the body or turning it into a plow truck for my driveway.
Well it’s my firs bronco and I have a 4000$ motor in it, I’m in nw arkansas so kinda south. I’ve been looking for another bronco that needs a motor but so far no luck. I want to keep the truck but didn’t know if it’s worth the effort the descent broncos around here go from 6k-8k that’s usually with a lift and a few mods. I haven’t found any stock ones but haven’t been looking to hard. As for my rockers they appear to be fine but previous owner had some body work done and it has a lot of bondo on it my kids love the truck so I guess if I can’t find another for reasonable price I’ll just fix this one a little at a time
mine is a rust bucket. I don't care. as long as I don't hit a big bump fall through the floor board and get run over by my back tire... LOL I am never selling it.
It depends on the vehicle for me. I would do whatever I had to when it comes to my bronco. If it was just an old beater that had no restoration value then I wouldn’t hesitate to haul it to the scrap yard.

But you could still find someone to buy it even then if it still looks like a Bronco.

By old beater I was meaning something like an old tempo, escort or something no one really cares about. Cars like mustangs, Broncos, Camaros, etc, you can find a buyer for no matter what shape it’s in. When it comes to my bronco I would replace ever last part on it before I would junk it.
Can you do the rust repairs yourself? Paying someone else to do the work probably wouldn't be worth saving it. But, if it's just your time and sheet metal it may be worth it, plus the satisfaction of fixing it yourself. I replaced the whole floor, subfloor, inner and outer rockers, frame, and more on my '79 bronco. Don't think I would do it again, but I don't regret it.
