You’re the guy buying the widow makers. The N600 has the 6 x 8.75” pattern so if you can spend some yard time you’ll be able to find a used set of 22.5” x 6.00” or 6.75” tubeless replacements. You’re lucky it’s a 1965 and not a 1963/64 because they had hub piloted widow makers. The buyer of your truck needs to start looking for a set of tubeless 17.5s. Stu

You can also go the military surplus route on the N600. These old threads discuss it. Stu

Truck tires like you're talking about, with a split ring, are not the same thing as "widow makers".

If those tires are in good condition, run 'em. There is always a chance a WM will let go, but that's probably not going to happen if they are rust free, and have been mounted up for a while. ("proven" so to speak) The real danger is airing them up after a tire change. Airing them up period is a risk.

From the looks of both trucks, you have some work to do to bring that N up to the level you had that F350.

Good luck with it!

To clarify about Kevin’s wheels. These are the 17.5” tonner tubeless wheels having the 6 x 7.25” pattern. They are Budd 79120s having three hand holes each. Stu

Just my 2 cents. I did my fair share of split rims when I was a kid. Never liked them, and although they are not all "widowmakers", there was a patch in the roof of Rolands tire(?) in New Bedford over the tire machine where a 20" lock ring went threw the roof, passing threw the neck of the installer. Not 100% sure it was Rolands, but I think it was. That gave me a great deal of respect for all split type rims. My father taught me to bolt the wheel on the truck backwards with the lock ring facing in before inflating them, that way if it does get loose, nobody dies. They also make tire cages that you roll the wheel into before inflating.

If I owned a split rim truck that needed tires, I would more than likely go to solid rims.

And as a side note that I did not see in this thread yet, I remember, I believe it was a ford with a 2 piece lock ring. Only remember one truck with it and my memory kinda sucks, but I though it was an early 70's F-500. Bill might be able to enlighten us on that. And I believe both rings where continuous.

Oh and another thing, that rim in the early part of the thread that you can see threw is definitely a bent rim. The notch that some of them had for the tire tool was a rectangular cutout. That is definitely a dent and should be straightened.

Eric

I am looking for a set of 6 wheels for my 62 F350 dump truck. 6 on 7.25" bolt pattern. If these are available I would be interested in them if they are what goes on my truck and the price is right.

Hey, Truckdog. Saw your collection in your signature and saw my name! My name is Daniel Marmon. If I'm a direct descendent, I don't know where the money went!

Since the company still exists and is today still doing AWD conversions, you might trace your family tree to see if your birthright awaits you. Stu
