After fixing the hinge mounts I'm working on crack repairs in the sheet metal. Each side ahead of the hinge mounts had been cobbed up / repaired by the PO. I cut out the sections and welded in new metal.
Toward the front there are cracks on both edges also. Will do a similar repair.
I want to replace the torch cut clearance cutouts with new metal. Apparently the PO had an issue with the hood hitting a fender bolt head. I've never had the hood on the truck. I'm assuming this notch shouldn't be necessary with the sheet metal assembled properly. Am I right?
You are correct. There are rubber hood bumpers along the inside the of fenders. Your fender bolt heads should be lower than the bumpers. Aligned correctly there will/should be NO metal to metal contact except for the locking dowel at the front of the hood.
