O...K...? That makes no sense. Why does the factory use a resonator? The resonator does very little muffling. It's there to remove annoying drone. And I'm talking about replacing the factory resonator anyway.
FWIW, I have a Super 50/ 50 SUV (whatever they're calling it now), just put it on last year. For something flowmaster says has a "mild" sound it was pretty damn loud. Probably not as loud as a 40 series but loud. This guy's video does a good job of illustrating the sound level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QkfJvrQLYk&t=12s
I had to add a section of spiral insert to bring the volume down to more acceptable levels but right now it's perfect.
Is the 50 SUV louder then the original muffler or does it only sound different? You still have the Resonator installed, correct?
Good info. I was considering the 50 delta, so yeah, the 50 super for sure between the 2 since it’s supposed to be quieter and you say it’s loud. How did you add the spiral insert? Is it something that you have to cut the pipe and add, or stick down the end of the tailpipe? Probably cut and add mid pipe i’m thinking. Something to think of in case any route i go is too loud. I see they’re only like $20.
This is the insert I used: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/p...QaAsrhEALw_wcB But, it is cut down to just one spiral as that gave me the volume I wanted. It requires some grinding to fit properly and pretty much has to be at least tack welded into place but you could put it into the tailpipe if you wanted (although I don't think they make those ones smaller than 3" diameter). I had about a foot long section of pipe between my resonator and muffler so I put it in there. It's pretty mellow now and I really like it. BTW one thing to keep in mind with the video I posted, that guy used the Flowmaster cat back kit so he has no resonator at all.

I have an aftermarket resonator. I still have the stock one and thought about putting it back on just to see how it was with the Flowmaster but I have yet to get around to doing it. With the factory resonator I'm sure it would be louder, as to how much louder I don't know.

Update-
I just had my new muffler welded on at my local muffler shop this morning. $60 1/2 hr labor, not bad.
i ended up going with the super 50, it’s flowmasters 13th quietest out of 15. The muffler I had cut off was the 40 series, their 3rd loudest, and again, I have no resonator.
MUCH better. It is still loud, but not obnoxious. Very little drone, but still some that I don’t mind, it’s so much better. At idle it’s deep and nice sounding, normal acceleration it’s heard, but not crazy. WOT it’s pretty loud, but sounds nice. I wish it was a tad quieter but only a tad. With that being said, i’m done and sticking with it. I love the sound of the coyote and get to hear it, not obnoxious anymore though.
I just had a Super 10 welded in my sons 5,0L truck. It sounds great, but too much cab noise and resonance for me. He likes it... Kids. Still, my Corsa is much louder at cold startup, and WOT, but I have absolutely no resonance and in the cab, it is quiet even at WOT. Corsa technology is phenomenal. Both my sons 2011 and my 2018 don’t have resonators.
