I have never heard of a 97 with AD injectors. I believe those started with the late 99 or 2000 model year. The 97 California emissions trucks had AB injectors while the federal trucks had AAs. That said, the solenoids are interchangeable.
thank you farmert----------this little bus wont start-- its an 98- with mechanical fuel pump (new ) new motocraft cps--ipr -ipc hpop uvcg- glowplugs- new oil- new batteries new starter- idm

buzz tested-- all buzz 4 weak but buzzed--4 loud and clear
Iam an IDI DIESEL GUY--or was-- still figuring this motor out
there is compression--when I first got it it was running sounded great then one day it sounded like one bank of injectors all failed at once
hasn't started since---

Have you checked the wiring /plugs to the valve cover gaskets for melting? Also check the gasket pins for burned pins. Remove the valve cover and check the under cover wiring for the same. To me it sounds like an issue with the wiring because if the IDM senses a short it can shut one bank down to protect itself. The usual culprit is a glow plug starts to draw more amps and overheats the pin in the gasket, which in turn melts into the pin to the injector. AA injectors are a 90cc single shot injector, while the AD injector is a little larger in volume and is a split shot injector, meaning it splits its volume into 2 pulses in its injection cycle. They have different tuning in the computer to operate properly.
thanks---farmert ---now im wondering------if the injectors that came it the bus were the wrong one to begin with ????????????
its to hot to be in that bus-- to check connectors but I will soon
now I need to find out what injectors came in a 1998 f 450short bus

That is the big question. I sadly do not know. If you had the pcm code off the ecm box that might help in the search. What is the mix count of as vs ad?
Also AD are 140cc split shot.
Either way a custom chip can be programmed to make either single shot aa or split shot ad work but you need one or the other as a whole set.
Yes the solenoids are all the same.
