VSM Failure
I've scoured the internet and these forums, and please forgive me if this has already been discussed, I have definitely done my searching. I was just gifted a 2002 Ford Excursion V10 2WD (YAY ME! I've always wanted an Excursion, preferably a 7.3, but free is free). It's got 179k miles and its door ajar light is permanently on, no power door locks, auto headlights don't work, door keypad doesn't light up or function (I've got the code for it), radio doesn't turn off when I turn off the truck and open a door. I scanned it with FORScan over OBD and when all the doors are closed, they show closed via the OBD2 port. I've lubed the $%&# out of each latch, even replaced the driver's door lock actuator and the power door locks still don't work. So, I'm convinced I've got a bad VSM. The part number I've found online is 2C7T-15K602-AJ, but I only see this part number when discussing 7.3s and Superdutys, I just want to verify that that is the correct part number for a 2002 V10. I'm very mechanically inclined, (can't program it, so will probably have to go to the stealership and get it programmed.), but I can install it! Other than that the truck is perfect mechanically, can anyone verify that I have the correct part number for the VSM. I want to take good care of this truck and get it back in proper shape.
Again the part number I have is 2C7T-15K602-AJ.
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated! Attached is a pic of the truck, for attention hahaha.
Please don't chastise me if I missed something in the search feature, and I'm looking forward to being a member on this forum.
Thanks in advance!

Also there is a place listed on FB out of Moorehead, KY that might be able to help you. The specialized in SD parts.

Unfortunately (for you, fortunately for me
) I don't have any input on your electrical gremlins or the VSM issue. But I just want to say that a RWD V-10 XLT like yours would be a great rig to serve as a tow rig and would be high on my list if I had to start all over again. And I see that yours has the larger towing mirrors, do you know which gear ratio it has?
Does it unlock with the key fob? Will it start? Any indication from the THEFT light? I'd lean toward the VSM if it didn't unlock, start, or had strange THEFT light behavior.
Any abnormal behavior with the windows? Interior lights work as designed? Do you get a door chime with all doors closed? If you have illuminated running boards, do the lights stay on when the doors are closed?
Did you remove and clean/check all fuses? These trucks can develop a windshield leak, which results in the fuse panel getting wet and causing intermittent connections. One of the clues can be some rust on the blades of the bottom row of fuses.
This sounds silly, but try pounding on the dashboard, in the middle of the cluster over the top of the speedo. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in 2002, many functions of the GEM were moved to the instrument cluster, and over time some of the solder connections can become wonky and intermittent - eventually failing the functions entirely. The auto headlights seem to be more a symptom of the GEM... hey, it's something free to try. There's also a battery saver module (also on the cluster) that affects the radio shutoff, but that may be a different rabbit hole.

With your permission I’m gonna go whack my 17 year old American plastic dashboard and hope to god it fixes everything! Hahaha, thanks for the reply!

I just got a 2002 Excursion V10 4WD and the owner got it from told me it has a VSM Issue. The Little Red Light in the Center of the Cluster is on (if I take the Ground off the battery and put it back one it does out for awhile,
So I have been watching for a Excursion and they are hard to find for me till now. I pick it up on Friday and it has the V10m 4" Pro-Comp Lift and 20" Rims (which will get changed back to the stock size with Off Road Tires. This is supper clean. It has a Security Module that the current owner wasn't concerned about getting fixed.
Well none of the Key Fobs work, The key Pad doesn't work, the unlock only unlocks or locks the current door and it ha that little red light on the dash. So my first question is "Is there anyone here that can give me some advise on getting this replace. He told me that it was behind the radio and he has someone try to fi it but they couldn't figure out to get the radio out. That doesn't seem to be very hard to do. I have read some post using a google search and some say they are dealer installed and can be anywhere and some say that the Dealer needs to program it and some say you can do it from the instructions.
Thanks for any help I can get.
