Hey guys, I’ve got a 1993 ford bronco that has a 302, 5.0 in it and it’s fresh built It’s got a couple extra things done to it but nothing overboard. I stabbed the distributor and had it set to 1degree past top dead center installed motor fired it up and was a little sluggish after a few times running the brake in so I advanced timing a bit and ran better still a little stuttering around 1200 rpm but I ran out of room advancing so I jumped the holes and guessed at where Distributor should be but now it won’t fire. I went to pull the #1 plug but can’t get a socket on it due to the shorty headers I put on. So only verification I can get is the harmonic balancer timing settings. The rotor is currently pointed at #1 plug and here’s a pic of timing marks, any ideas?
Well I looked at my balancer better and it look like it’s 180 out. So I need to pull the distributor and re adjust, any advise? Is that yellow paint or crayon should I do that? Do I like up on circle or the flat edge?
Yeah it’s on the finder but has the flat mounting spot still on the dizzy and I just recently read about the spout wire. It has flat top race pistons h beam rods ported and polished heads bored .030 a mild rv cam Crain roller rockers and roller lifters. I was told not to mess with the cam cause the pc can’t compensate but was told a mild rv cam was ok I can’t find the paperwork to get the lift or duration
Since it appears the distributor is 180 out you could turn the engine over another turn then re-stab the distributor. Then follow the steps to set it in the link I posted previously.
Let's hope that "RV" cam is Speed Density friendly....the key specification is the LSA needs to be ~114. Anything less can cause issues.
My engine guy who rebuilt it for me said he used the same cam that was in it but it was not the stock one he remembered it being just a little taller and a hair wider so figured it was a mild rv cam for pulling trailers he said it was in good shape and truck was running pretty good before so said I should be good but he didn’t have the precise numbers it was a couple years ago
I am curious what headers you running because you should have no issues getting the spark plug out especially on the #1 cylinder. Have you established your timing marks on the damper? chalk or crayon works well to get the marks to show up.
