Hi guys After seeing the tire shop struggle to remove the center caps on my dually I became worried that if I had a flat tire on the rear that I wouldn’t be able to get the center caps off. So after reading several threads on the subject I came up with my own solution. It’s from a piece of 3/4” left over flat stock that I got from Lowe’s at one time. I bent the ends in a vice with a claw hammer. The 3/4 fits perfectly in the tire iron and the caps. One warning though don’t use the tire iron on its flat side, it will bend the tire iron from the pressure so use it sideways. Piece I had was about 14 “ long before the bends The hook that goes through the iron is about an inch long The short hook that goes through the cap is about 5/8” long It’s 3/4 stock from Lowe’s or HD Make sure the long hook goes sideways through the tire iron Don’t use it flat or it will bend the iron This is the method I used Lean the hook side of the iron on the tire and pull on the socket end with both hands and it will come off easily with a good tug It stows with the rest of the tools Stores well I may paint it and cover it with a rag to prevent the sharp edges digging into anything Another view of the long hook side 3/4” flat stock fits nicely in the cutouts. Short hook
doesn't look like a dually wheel.
the end of you tire iron in the pic has a rubber coated tip for removing those SRW wheels caps. The silver tool seems unnecessary.

Correct ... SRW. Longer one would work on a DRW cap. That rubber tip won't last long, plus it's a bit too bulky to fit between the wheel and cap and slip into the cap's notch.
You know it would probably cost Ford 25 cents per truck to make something that would do this. I don’t know if it’s penny pinching or the engineers just not thinking about it. ..

Im fairly certain the center caps we are talking about here are the rear center caps.
The fronts on a dually and the SRW trucks are easily removed with the rubber tipped bar in the tire changing kit.
The rubber tipped bar will not remove the rear center caps.

All true, yes. I made my SRW cap-puller because that rubber tip will eventually get worn off or just slip off the tire iron. After that, the tire iron will start gouging / defacing the finish of the aluminum wheel. Another bonus is it only takes one hand to pull the (SRW) cap off, leaving the other hand to steady and catch it before it falls on the ground ... avoiding more scratches.
Where was this idea last week when I struggled for hours to get the center caps off? Ended up using a 4x4 and a ratchet strap to get mine off. I'll be headed to the hardware store today to get some steel. Your idea is much better! Thanks for posting!
I read on line somewhere about using a 2x4 to get the cap off. I used a 4' piece of 2x4. Just put the end down in between the cap and rim and lever against the cap. It pops right off. Easy and cheap.
