i drive a 2002 F250 7.3L 4WD SD LWB CC w/ 260k miles. The original shocks are shot & need to be replaced. Most of my driving is commuting to work through pretty bumpy TX country roads. Most of the time my bed is empty. I bought this truck brand-new & plan to keep it indefinitely, so I'm not overly concerned about the price of the shocks. I want something that will improve the ride quality as much as possible (wife hates riding because it's rough) & last as long as possible. I don't mind paying more for something that works better & lasts a long time (kind of like my truck).
I have also been considering Sulastic shackles as an additional way to improve the ride quality.
Any advice? Thank you, in advance.
You should probably use the search feature as this is covered regularly. Others will give input on what they like. There’s a few options, and I prefer Bilstein.
I've spent hours reading posts, trying to make a decision. Unfortunately, I've got "analysis-paralysis".
I was looking at Bilstein 5100 & Fox 2.0. I'm really looking for performance & longevity.
Coincidentally, I just swapped out my shocks this past Saturday morning. Job took about 3.5 hrs. 1st side pair took longer than 2nd. It included front to rear tire rotation and brake inspection, as part of my 150k service. Full transmission flush to follow this week-maybe coolant too.
Having truck on stands with both wheels off on one side gave me a bit of anxiety, but carefully thinking it though was the plan. The front top nuts are a bit of a pain.
I replaced originals with Rancho 5000s. Advance Auto $62, less 20% and free shipping. I'm happy with them.
I just replaced some trashed Monroe Reflex PO had put on and replaced with Bilstein 4600s. Great value for the money. The worse part about them is the baby blue and yellow color. Note, Bilstein will tell you themselves that the 4600s is all you need on stock suspension. The 5100s, though they say they are for 0" up, they are really more for lifted. My 4600s have made a world of differences. Ether way, Ranchos, Bilstein, Fox...most will be fine and better than old shocks. More scrutiny only required for specific duty applications IMO.
