Well first off this is regarding a '91 2wd Ranger Supercab; and I am currently shopping for new shocks for it, and while I have searched and searched the archives on this issue, I'm only more on the fence about which shock to go with. I have heard many many many good things about Bilsteins with a few complaints here and there. These are what I'm currently leaning toward so far. However I have also read good things about the various KYB shocks as well. The most appealing KYB shock seems to be the MonoMax's, but I fear that may be more shock than I need and that I might not be happy with the ride(same with the Bilsteins). I've looked briefly at the Edelbrocks, but they're more expensive than the Bilsteins and I havent seen overwhelmingly positive feedback on them to justify the cost. I also saw that Tokico makes a line a shocks, called Trekmasters I believe, and I haven't really been able to find much on those.
As far as my driving situation, I obviously dont offroad being that my truck is 2wd. I do drive on a quite a few rough roads, and the roads here in Fairbanks Alaska are overall horrible. With the deep freezing and thawing the roads crack and get very convoluted, not to mention the potholes which sometimes you have no choice but to drive into. My actual highway driving is limited, because I get to work taking back roads and side streets. I also do a paper route in the morning which takes about 3 hours, putting me in my truck 4+ hours a day, everyday. Which is why I want to make sure to get the right shocks, or I will spend alot of time regretting it. Any input on this matter would be highly appreciated, especially from anyone with actual experience with the shocks I mentioned or with other high quality shocks I'm not thinking of. Thanks!
I just put on Monroe REflex on my 99 4x2 Supercab. They are a mono tube similar to the Bilstein but less $. I am very happy with the ride/handeling. Firmed the ride up some but the control is 100% improved. Plus Monroe has the $20 rebate going on now.
