Leaf spring “helper”

Wondering if anyone has used these?

I know the “proper” solution is a new leaf pack, but short of that, I need just a little bit more arch on my 60+ yo springs.

Good idea / bad idea?

As many leaves as there are in the stock pack, hard to believe that would make a noticeable difference.

Guess I should mention that I removed every other leaf in the rear packs early on in the build (and no longer have those springs)… D'OH!

Take them to a spring shop and have them re-arched to the ride height you want. They could probably add a leaf back in if you wanted as well.

I tried removing just one leaf from my pack (3rd from bottom) and the difference in spring rate was massive. I know the convention is to do that on these trucks but beware it might just be too soft. I now have all 6 back in and my rating is 195 lb/in (factory was 230 lb/in). My advice would be new springs if you no longer have them.

You would be way better off using an add-a-leaf (which gets put in the spring pack) over that cheap bolt on spring. Did I mention those bolt on ones are ugly as sin.

Go to this link at Summit and take a look.

I recently bought an O/T 90s Japanese pickup to carry 1,000L IBC containers for work.
The truck was originally "rated" to carry this load, but simply could NOT.

I put one of these in, and I now regularly carry IBCs on 100 mile round trips on the freeway - it simply puts a little preload into your existing leaves.
