To all the people that hate the auto wipers and have turned them off. I was one of you until about 30min ago. I had mine turned off and after reading this thread, I figured I would give them another shot when I had the opportunity. We have been having heavy to a light drizzle rain here today so what a great time to test it out. When I turned auto back on, I made sure they were on the lowest sensitivity setting but they were still going way too fast for a light drizzle. I thought, wow, the people that like these are crazy. I played with the sensitivity and moved the dial to the highest sensitivity and the wipers were dancing like nobody was watching. Full retard mode. Lol. I then spun the dial back to the lowest setting and behold, they actually worked at a normal speed. They were delaying between 4-13 seconds depending on my speed in a light drizzle. This was acceptable, even one time I had to turn the sensitivity up because it wasn’t clearing the window fast enough.
I know I had a hell of a time in the fall with misting conditions and road splatter of icy slush from other vehicles.
What I figure the trick to these auto wipers is, turn them on, spin the dial to the highest sensitivity and then lower it back down to the desired sensitivity. It’s worth a shot as it seems to have worked for me. Knowing Ford and their weird issues, this might be one of them. Give it a try. I’m curious to see if this corrects the problem for others or if maybe I smoked a little too much today 😂 Just joking. Don’t smoke and drive!
Does anyone agree with me that the auto wipers totally suck? I had to turn mine off in setting because they were terrible. Wiping constantly even in just a mist. IMO they are useless.
Hmm, I live in Seattle. I had them on my porsche, then bought another car without them. Vowed that I would never own a car/truck without them again. Have them on my 2018 f350. They work like a charm. in fact, they work better that those on my porsche.
I agree the design sux. Mine would wipe furiously at the highest speed for perhaps 3 wipes then delay then wipe once then delay then 5 times furiously then 2 times slow then... Totally random, totally distracting. I think they are dangerous. I turned them off after the second rain, havent turned them back on again yet, dont plan to.
I like mine. I tend not to use wipers a lot, which drives my wife crazy when I'm driving. But, with the autos, everyone is happy. Every now and then, I'll get a phantom wipe from dirt, bug, solar flares, whatever. And, very rarely, I'll get lots of water and no wipe, which causes me to manually actuate my wipers. But, the other 95% of the time, they work well and properly adjust to rain volume. I'd give a solid A- rating.
I'm not sure why this feature is so hard to figure out. The automatic wipers on my 911s were like magic - never too much, never too little, never wiping when unneeded. None of my Fords have ever wiped the right speed or frequency, regardless of setting.
