Auto wipers
Everyone seems pretty consistent with their answers...we either don't like it because it's oversensitive or maybe our personal threshold for what we feel is the proper speed is slightly different and those who like them only seem to use the lowest setting. So it's either off or lowest setting.
This is not the way Auto wipers work typically. Normally sensitivity is set so an average person would pick a place in the middle and have maybe a slight variation from there either up a notch or down a notch to adjust for personal preferences.
Seems to me this is another example of some safety bean counter at Ford having the sensitivity cranked way up so nobody can sue Ford for "well I had the auto wipers set and I couldn't see through the rain on my windshield when I hit the XYY (fill in the blank)".

Those who actually like the feature, you dont find that when it's on they are at an necessary or overtly aggressive speed? That's my problem with the feature. A very light rain, that I would normally chose the slowest intermittent setting, would have these going as if it was a monsoon.
That doesn't sound like mine on my 17. They don't stay at high speed on slow drizzle. In a situation where it's light rain constant, then a big rain hits, yes they jump to full speed, but then they slow down to an appropriate setting. It's only a few seconds or less. Or another example: If a car coming the other direction hits a big hole and splashes the windshield, they'll jump to full speed, which is too much, but then they come back down to slow drizzle speed. Now if it's misting here and there, I just turn them off, bump the lever occasionally.
I'm in the other boat. I wish mine were more aggressive. On the slower settings, visibility through the windshield becomes difficult before the next swipe. I'm happy leaving it on the higher automatic settings.
I usually run mine on the lowest sensitivity, turn that dial off all the way and run just enough they wipe once. It will be every so often only, highly intermittent. Sometimes I click it up one. Now I have new wiper blades and no screeching and skipping, they work well. These auto wipers should only ever be on one at least just in case saved my bacon once when son and slush came across from oncoming lane and covered the windshield completely. Three fast swipes and I could see again. I always leave them on at least the first setting. I spec wash the truck a lot and always wash windows before a trip.
No complaints at all.
If they’re in the lowest sensitivity setting, you should be fine.
Thanks Jim. I considered this. Made sure it was clean and even used a clay bar on the area of glass by the sensor to make sure there wasn’t any film from the factory or shipping that was microscopic or at least so small I could not feel it or see it.
No difference.
And I get the same exact behavior out of my 2017 Super Duty and my 2018 Expedition.
It’s a feature I paid for that I don’t get to use now.

While I have tried adjusting the sensitivity, I just haven’t been able to find a satisfactory sweet spot. I’ll give it another go,
Safe travels during the holiday!

Mine work fine also, I've only had them sweep a couple of times abnormally.
Just to be clear (no pun intended), I meant to be chewin’ on Ford, not you. My sarcastic translation of their disclaimer is that the AW feature may not work (well) in normal environment conditions. Perhaps the sensor is in the wrong spot on the windshield.

While I do enjoy my Fords there are a few items I wish were engineered differently on these trucks and I wish the Ford engineers were more responsive in coming up with solutions. This wiper condition is one of them for sure.
