3rd Quarter Any Topic Thread
I was trying to scroll through much of the chat to see if anyone has brought this up.
But has anyone heard anything about Highway Patrol pulling people over Diesel Trucks checking there exhaust?

I think the answer for either is that CHP has better things to do. There is no shortage of vehicles that I consider too danged loud, and no one is doing anything about it. And a diesel with a turbo, it's never going to be really loud compared to other stuff out there.
Now as far as the CAT, I've read lots of stories about mobile emission scanners. Never known anyone who actually got any kind of notice about it. Since we have to test every 2 years anyway, I don't think pickups are any kind of priority and unless you blow soot clouds, you would pass anyway. They are cracking down on any traffic in or out of the So Cal ports, but those are commercial vehicles.

I was more concerned about noise. Was thinking about getting a 4in kit for the 7.3.
After reading the articles, it says it applies to autos under 6,000 gvw
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I don't think you'll have any cops bugging you if you short pipe it. The turbo is going to muffle it pretty good. You may lose some low end torque though. Or so I've heard.
Few weeks ago I was following a built Camaro up our downtown street. It's narrow, old town, with buildings close to the street on both sides. I was on my bike and my ears were actually hurting from the noise, and I could feel it for a few hours after. I think he must have had cut-outs opened up, enjoying his Sunday morning cruise. We drove right by the police station. Might have been donut time, I'm not sure.
Majority of the E99 came with a CAT. Just my luck when they got rid of it in 1999.
If I was going to get a 5in exhaust, I would be more concerned about low end power loss.
fueled up and left Ely,NV about 2pm Wednesday and headed up to West Wendover, NV/ Wendover, UT. stopped at the Victory highway monument and other monuments to significant moments in U.S. history, also read about and got a picture on the neon cowboy "wendover will" the city had a sign with a web address to submit your selfie pictures with wendover will, i almost unloaded mater! haha. i stayed the night in West Wendover at a KOA as the casinos and truck stops didn't seem very appealing, slept very well and got a shower there also... looking forward to using there campgrounds in the future. Thursday i toured Wendover Airfield and learned how it had extremely significant history with the famous bomber of WW2 the Enola Gay and the Manhattan project and ending WW2 in the pacific. from there i stopped at the Bonneville salt flats (Ely, NV and the salt flats were the only major planned stops everything else just happened). i got a good laugh at the many Asian tourists taking turns doing speed runs. from there i stopped at The Great Salt Lake in Utah, read up on some of the history in the visitor center. tried to meet up with a friend in Salt Lake City but he was busy. so i pushed on and stopped for the night and a fuel stop at Evanston, WY with trailer lights not working.
i stopped at the chain auto parts store at 8pm local time there and diagnosed the lights and made repairs before they closed at 9pm....after they closed i found that my trailer brakes had also stopped working since id stopped. i gave up for the night and moved over to the Walmart parking lot for the night and also picked up some needed wiper blades, -20* washer fluid, and some anti gel diesel additive because from wendover and on i had rain chasing me and fellow travelers saying they had been hitting snow in the higher elevations. also in evanston i had nasty weather coming in and temps down to 38*. Friday morning i made repairs and got my trailer brakes working, the night before i drained the tap water from my windshield washer system and refilled with the new cold weather fluid. as i climbed the mountain pass out of evanston, WY i got snowed on and once i dropped down into the valleys i escaped the rain/snow. from there on i had fair weather and lots of wind.
in Rawlins, WY i pulled off for a bathroom break and top off my fuel for the last push into the Greeley, CO area. now for about half of the trip i had a strange speed related vibration, like a tire with a bubble or tread separation, many times i stopped i could not locate the offender by visual inspection or by feel while driving. so when i stopped in Rawlins, WY i noticed on my straps, tires, bearing temp, walk around that i had a almost flat left rear tire ( 15lbs) so i swapped in my spare tire and pushed on, vibration went away and i was very lucky i didn't have a blow out. i suspect i was having a tire fail internally. i didn't stop in Wyoming for much as i was getting tired and wanted to make my destination. but being as close as i am to Wyoming im going to make trips out there often, actually this coming weekend the UP Bigboy is leaving Cheyenne for its return trip to SoCal and a tour of the southwest and i am planning on driving out to railfan a little in Wyoming.
pulled into Greeley, CO at 7pm local time here, over all it was a epic trip. i needed a vacation/road trip and i got to see stuff and learn stuff ive never seen before. and mater! well he made a great!! conversation starter at every stop i made and lots of pictures were taken of him. he does run! and many people couldn't believe that he ran. so now this coming week ill spend getting my drivers license and my truck smoged and registered out here. and on the 1st start the new job. overall the truck ran great running at a GCVW of 16.5k LBS, i did get turbo surge on the big hills which seems unusual as i do not have a chip or flash on my truck, ill have to do some reading again as ive never had this problem before.
sorry for the long story.
below are some of the pictures i took, i didn't post all of them and they should be in close-ish order with my story.
I keep forgetting to ask, did you ever get reverse going on the 4R100?
Do you start work this week? Best of luck in CO, not too far away for some future G2G at some interesting spot in NE.

I Start work a week from today.
yes I did have the transmission fixed last October sofar has been working awesome. Just need to change my axle gearing if I plan to tow anything heavy like I did. The gearing was awesome for flat highway but in the hilly towns I used 4 low with front hubs unlocked Speed limit in most of those times are 25mph and that's all a super duty will do in 4 low.
Is there a planned g2g in NE?
I'm mostly aware how big the USA is to drive across, but every now and then a refresher is needed haha. Cell service was spotty between Town's and was solid in towns and along I80 but over the whole trip I only played music for about 2 hours.
For me there is just something about listening to the truck clatter along and the mud tires whine. A common thought I had was man this is a big slightly risky trip crossing the remote country in a older truck and then I would ponder about the people before that crossed this land and terrain with nothing more then a hope and a dream.
