Limp Mode 95'

Well not so much of an intro but more why I joined this forum.. I live in champaign IL though and own a 95' Bronco.

Problems: ABS light
no speedo
o/d light flashing on and off
hard shift

What I figured it was.. ABS and no speedo so I assumed rear speed sensor and replaced it. Then I researched more and found out it was in limp mode and I got two newer used speedometers.. well didn't fix the problem.. all lights still on.

so thats why Im here trying to figure out what is wrong before I go on and replace more parts. Please help!

Is the odometer blank?

Given the symptoms you will most likely have Code 452: Computer detected an error in the VSS or PSOM signal during the last 80 warm-up cycles. I would suggest you run the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) tests and Stored Code display to see if there is anything else going on. This can be done with a paper clip (How to run a Self Test ) or highly suggest to invest in a code reader such as the Innova/Equus 3145.

Your Bronco has 4 wheel ABS (4WABS) so getting the ABS related codes from that controller is a bit tougher than the F-Series trucks that have rear ABS (RABS).

Re

No Odometer is not blank. I have put in three different PSOM so I doubt its that. Im thinking it might be a wiring issue. But I will most likely be borrowing one from a buddy soon

I replied below.

Also after messing with the cluster the airbag light started flashing.

I never pointed to the PSOM as the problem. If the odometer is blank with the key in the Run position then Fuse 18 is most likely open or an open in the power circuit. Since yours is not blank, and multiple PSOMs, power is not your root cause.

It would still be advisable to run the KOEO tests and CM code display just to see what the computer thinks is wrong. As I previously stated you most likely have Code 452. In most cases it's not a bad VSS sensor.

I have run across several Broncos (different forum) where the 4WABS module is bad which prevents the VSS signal from continuing onto the PSOM.

Here is a diagram of what I referring to:

Some more info on testing the VSS signal from Steve83:

No, they are either all 2-digit or all 3-digit. Yours being a 1995 model would use 3-digit codes.

All of the 6-series codes are an indication the connector to the solenoid pack may be unplugged or damaged. It is located on the passenger side of the transmission usually behind a small cover. This connector was redesigned in 1995 to be more robust, but you need to pull it off then inspect for signs for signs of contamination.

Code 565 is related to the purge canister for the fuel tank/vapor canister. ignore it for now.

None of those are a cause for no speedometer/odometer operation, but will cause hard shifting because the computer is operating the transmission in limp mode.Very surprised Code 452 is not in the list, it probably will be soon.

You most likely have multiple problems.

Is this a new to you Bronco?
