I am in the process of converting all of my power wires to solid copper stranded wire (not CCA) since the previous owner had done something similar with really crappy wire. I am using 2/0 gauge for the grounds, between batteries, and going to the starter. The wire from the starter solenoid to the battery is a 6ga. I have not changed the wire from the alternator to the fusible links yet.
I am currently getting large voltage fluctuations at IDLE (13.8V to 16.0V) that just go up and down and rarely stabilize anywhere. When it does stabilize its around 14.3-14.5V while driving. I did not get this before I switched the wires.
Did I go too big on the gauge, or bad grounds, or something I am overlooking?
The alternator is a stock casing that has been re-wound to be a HO alternator. I'm not sure what its rated.
I would like to switch the cable from the alternator to the fusible links but am not sure how to connect the fusible links to a 2/0 gauge wire.
