Ask a question but don't wait for answer??

You guys crack me up. Whining about the failings of the younger crowd has been a thing since at least the time of Aristotle (4th century BC).
The lurker to poster ratio isn't known with certainty, but let's just assume it is something like 10:1. All that means is every helpful response is useful to a group of folks - many of whom we'll never meet IRL. It might be the the bit of 'how to' that demystifies something to get old iron back on the road. There is an incredible pool of knowledge on FTE that is generously offered at the slightest hint of interest. Let us not be ruffled about manners. Let us revel at the opportunity to share - knowing that our partners' eyes will not glaze over in disinterest and that someone will bother to read our words.
We're not a snooty bunch as many of us have other nameplates and non-truck wheels we also enjoy. So keep responding to those threads - regardless if or how the OP might respond. Be an ambassador. Wave at every old thing with wheels. Honk and smile at every youngster who points your way when on the road. Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for adding your positive response, FortyNiner. It's good to see someone living life on, "The sunny side". It's easy to get caught up in negativity and focus on what is wrong or annoying or disappointing. Staying positive doesn't always come naturally, but it's worth the effort.

I agree with all your responses, in differing ways, I guess you might say. I also gain a lot from all the good information that comes from these threads, even if the OP never does or doesn't acknowledge -who knows??... I don't belong to facebook or big sites like that, I usually only go on ClassicOldsmobile and FTE. Good stuff guys, keep it coming.... Greg.
I was a "new guy" once, still consider myself one and will probably always be one. Wish I could re-due my journey, and start working on these old trucks when I was 16 and not 56 years old. I know I ask so many more questions than I answer and I thank everyone of my enablers for the answers. I only dream of having the knowledge that some of you posses. Seems like some days I am borderline stupid.
So with that said I just want you all to know that all information shared in the past and any in the future is greatly appreciated.

Some great responses here guys! This is why this site is the best, tons of knowledge from a great group of guys that are always willing to share and help someone out.
To anyone reading, never feel bad about asking a question. Even if its something that's been asked and answered countless times before this group will generally come through with the info you need without any of the flaming and hassle you'll find on other boards.
You guys are awesome

FortyNiner Thanks.
Although I don't post much, but I'm on here practically everyday, a lot of times 3 or 4 times a day. I enjoy reading your all's stories, watching your build threads. although my heading says I've been a member since 2010, I've been here since around 2005, lost my user name and password, had to restart. But, I want each and everyone of you to know how I appreciate you, This is one of the best forums on the internet, with a great bunch of people. If our younger generation would only wake up, they could learn a lot. I have one grandson who is 22 years old. Don't believe there is a ounce of a day's work in him, try to talk to him about anything, before you know it, he knows it all. I grew up with these old Trucks and Cars, been turning wrenches with my Dad since I was a Toddler. Like most of Us, back in the 50's, 60's and 70's Boys were Boys, they had to have a Hotrod, a old car to work on, to learn on, to soup it up. I was thinking the other day, I was out seem some young men doing nothing with there life, wondered why that these young men were not interested in a old car or truck, trying to learn something.
But, has most and all of you have said, they are a spoiled, entitled group of youngsters. And, our political environment is making them even worse. Again, Thanks to all, You all are the Greatest!
For the love of god please keep politics off of this site!!!
Sign of the times we now live in. Brought to you by generations of instant gratification and that someone else should do that for me, that they are I'm entitled to. (Blame us, the patents?)
Very noticeable on face book (aka "its all about me") car related forums. Many false and misleading comments that are ignored if corrected and immediately forgotten.
Makes one wonder if the current political situation has any influence?
My two part solution, 1: I was having road rage issues until I realised it was me, I can not change or fix all the bad drivers in the world (or lazy site posters) And 2: I think twice now before replying to posts.
Not good, but it is what it is, the only good thing is that todays younger generation will eventually become parents and have to deal with the next generation.

I think I've been around here for a hunnert years or so. I remember once an OP complained about not enough responses to his/her question. My favorite response was, "How many correct answers do you want?"
LOL....I used to work with a guy like that. He would be trying to troubleshoot an issue, and he would call you and ask for help. You could tell him what the exact problem was, and how to fix it. As soon as he got off the phone, he would call someone else, then someone else, etc. Once right before 5:00 in the afternoon he called and said....I am confused! About what I asked? You told me to replace this another guy said do that, another said do this...I don't know where to start. We called that "The Richard Dawson Survey Says.....

Dead end threads suck. I don't know how many threads I have read through on different sights only to find a dead end. Because of my frustration with those threads, I try my best to ensure I don't leave people hanging. If I do, feel free to PM me and let me know and I'll follow up.
LOL, yes that was exactly what it was like! In this fellows case, he calls me a 9:00am, I told him to simply replace a circuit board, a simple slide out the old one, slide in a new one, less than a 15 min fix, he had the part, but chose to ignore my advice and go to other co-workers. I just had the same issue a day or two before, so I knew that was his problem, and I told him that. When he called me at 5:00pm and told me he was confused, and did not know where to start, and I asked him if he tried replacing that board, he said no one else thinks that is the problem. I told him that if you are not going to try what I asked you to, then why are you calling me? So finally after much prodding from me and a "don't make me come out there" he replaced the circuit board, and his problem was fixed. Took him all day on something that could of been done before 9:30 am.
