extended warrenty

I got a quote to extend my warranty on my '18 6.7 out to 5 years 100k miles for a little under $3K..
I'm only thinking of it because of all of the electronic stuff on it, 20K on the truck now so only 16k left on that warranty, the motor and drive train already have 100k warranty on them so I would be basically paying 3K for an additional 64k warranty on the rest of the parts

what are your opinions??

You actually have a few warranties, the base 3/36, the 5/60 powertrain and the 5/100 powerstroke warranty. The premium ESP is good and does cover a lot of things. Just depends on how long you plan on keeping the truck. Shop around ( unless you are a Florida resident). I would go towards 6/125k warranty and then also look at the powerstroke extended warranty. Last I checked it was a 10/200k warranty for an additional 2k.

Just make sure it’s an actual Ford ESP and not a second or third party ESP from another company.

Be sure to read the fine print...I've laughed at how few things they actually cover. I have owned enough vehicles without paying for an extra warranty that I feel it's not needed.

I think the "drive train" only has 60K warranty...its the engine which carries the 100K coverage

Yes, transfer case, transmission, 4x4 hubs etc are 5/60k. Diesel Engine is 5yr/100k.

My 2011 Explorer has had over $10,000 in warranty work (extended warranty) performed over the 145,000 on the odometer. My 07 6.0 had over $7,000 worth of extended warranty work (now we all know the 6.0 issues so maybe not a fair comparison). Neither of these amounts include all the rental coverage paid by Ford at $60 per day which would be well into the $2,500 - $3,000 range.

My 15 currently has only had about $300 in rental coverage (repairs under powertrain warranty) right now but it's going in tomorrow for a few minor issues but will rack up another $300+ in rental coverage and this will be the first repair under the ESP. I believe my APIM has to be replaced ($600), trailer 7pin replaced, possible vacuum leak on 4x4 hubs and a sensor issue for the trans temp causing hill decent and traction control faults.

So for many, they may not work out but these are prime examples of people who do make out. Frankly I would never buy a brand new vehicle this day and age without an ESP if I plan on keeping them. Now that they offer 8year and 150,000 mile coverage.. chances are I will be able to come close to breaking even at the very least.

So although you may have lucked out and others as well, these things are too damn expensive now not to have one. YMMV.

the paper can say what ever it wants but the warranty is worthless if you cant get a service appt. warranty work pays less than non warranty work and with my 7yr/125k miles ford warranty...the minute they lookup my vin and see I have a warranty ..suddenly there are no appts out for 90 days and even if I get an appt 11 or 12 weeks out..I get a call the week of to reschedule another 90 days..until ultimately the appt is cancelled by ford. all dealerships within 100 miles of high cost areas play this game. if I have a critical warranty need I have to take my truck 3 states away turn the truck in...book a hotel..and hang out for a few days. it might have been cheaper not to get the warranty and get local out of warranty appts than to have paid for the warranty plus all this travel time gas tolls hotels etc.

I once had a bad drive shaft and rather than play this game again I just bought the shaft at 1200 bucks and changed it myself.

total waste of money on my situation.

if you buy a warranty make sure you can use it
