Hey ya'll. I want to remove the A/C compressor from my '88 302 (F150) on the cheap. This is a beater work truck and the A/C hoses were cut long before I bought the truck, and I have no desire to re-instate the A/C. Windows give me all the ventilation I need! :-)
So, I know about the Doorman bypass pulley, but I don't want to spend > $40 on it. My understanding is that the trucks that came from the factory without A/C had the power steering pump mounted in that location. Ford Racing makes an even more expensive adapter that relocates the power steering pump to the factory A/C location, but I'm not spending that kinda money on this!
I'm thinking I'll just look for the factory power steering bracket from a 302 that came without A/C in a junkyard and pay a few bucks for it. This, in theory, should work just like the Ford Racing adapter, right? Does anyone know the part number for the factory bracket? Here is what my accessory mounting points and belt routing would look like:
You don't need the part number, you need the engineering number found on the part. Two different things here. I'm thinking you're going to have to look long and hard to find that in a junkyard. The vast majority of everything in the modern era came with A/C from the factory. You're better off spending the $40 on the Dorman part.
