2015 + expedition reliability

I used to own a 2010 Expedition el 4x4. I sold it and picked up a 6 liter Excursion because the Expedition didn't tow my trailer very well. Just found a catastrophic issue with the Excursion that is going to cost more than I can afford to repair. Looking to get back into an expedition. I've searched this form and all over the Internet for information on reliability of the EcoBoost. All I can find are reviews the year one was made but don't see anything for used vehicles and how they're lasting. Should I steer clear of an EcoBoost? What should I watch out for? Are people finding the turbos going out? What are the major mileage Milestones that things need to be done and what is having to be done/what is the cost involved? Whatever I get will be my daily driver, needs to be four-wheel drive, and able to tow a travel trailer with ease

I have had a few over the last 20 years, lots of trouble free miles with the 5.4, including a 2010 Expy EL and upgraded to a new 2016 Platinum EL with the 3.5 Ecoboost. After having had the 5.4, I was a bit leery going to the 3.5. I never looked back as the difference was like night and day. We tow a larger travel trailer (8,000 lbs and 34 ft) and the 3.5 did it effortlessly in comparison to our prior Expy’s. Where the 5.4 liked to be running at 3500 rpm and would scream even higher going up hills, the 3.5 was happy doing the same thing at around 1700 rpm with gibs if power to spare. The 3.5 was also better on fuel and just way more fun to drive. In the 3 years we had it, we had no problems and we tow quite a lot. These engines are quite stable and no issues with the turbos.

We recently traded ours in for an F350 Diesel as our trailer needs have increased in size. If this had not been the case, we would still be running the Expy for many more miles. I am sure you will be very happy with one of these.

Bought a 15' EL 4x4 with 28K miles on it January of 16'. Now have 110K miles on it and love it. Had a throttle body and HVAC controls in the dash replaced under warranty around 50-60K. Towed a 5000# boat dozens of times with the cruise set on 70, towed like a dream. Just got a 22' tritoon boat thats pushing 6K loaded with the trailer and can feel the wind a bit more than the open bow boat before it but still set the cruise on 65mph for the hour trip to the lake. Average 16-17mpg empty. 12mpg with the open bow boat and 8-9mpg with the sail of a pontoon boat behind me at 65mph.
