Tail Light Wiring Help

I'm a proud new owner of a 72 F100 Flairside!

Unfortunately while the truck was being transported to me someone decided to steal the tail lights off of it. The tail lights that were stolen were Ford Model A style, and I need some help on how to wire my replacement lights in. I'd like to preface this question by saying I am a complete novice when it comes to wiring, but I want to learn so I don't have to take my truck into the mechanic every time something small happens.

From my truck I have 4 wires that the thief cut - 2 green and 2 black. On my replacement tail lights there are only two wires - 1 green 1 black. What is the correct way to wire this light up?

I tried to do the following with no luck: 1st green wire from Truck connected to green wire on tail light. 2nd green wire from Truck put under mounting screw to ground it. 1st black wire from Truck connected to black wire on tail light. 2nd black wire from Truck under mounting screw.

Any advice? I appreciate any help and can't wait to go for a drive in my truck once the tail lights are working!

I’m not totally sure, but here’s a complete wiring diagram for your truck. Area of interest is F57 through K60 or so.

1972 F100-F350 Wiring Diagram - Fordification

Do the wires that used to be connected to the now-stolen lights connect to the factory wiring harness somewhere else (likely towards the rear of the bed/above the bumper)? A PO might have spliced into the harness to accommodate the lights you had on there, which would mean those wires in your picture are not necessarily what is shown on the wiring diagram.

Edit: Looking at your picture again, I’m quite sure those wires were spliced into the original harness somewhere. If you can trace them back to the factory wiring, you can directly reference the wiring diagram, and then verify with a multimeter or test light (and a helper to work the brakes ).

PS Congrats on the new truck!

Nice truck.

Those are not the stock wires. Here is what I would do. Turn on the parking lights and get a test light(or volt meter) and find which wire gives you power. Touch said wire to either of the tail light wires. The dimmer bulb is for running lights.
My big question is: I wonder if the PO tied the matching colors together to run to the passenger side? I'd look and see where they go.

Typical wiring for the back of the truck is
R turn/brake
L turn/brake
Parking lights
reverse lights.

I don't think those Model A tail lights have all that(pretty much know so).
My guess is they ground through the body, thus you only need TWO wires to make them function. The strange thing is, these trucks have ONE tail light(brake/turn), so don't know how they have it wired to work correctly? Or does that aftermarket tail light have a back up light in it?
