Have you guys waited till it went to the 500 or 200 mile warning to see if you experienced an issue? Thinking of you always fill it at 1/2 or more, you'll never know if you've confused the DEF system or not.
I have not and don't have any desire to do so. Last thing I want is a confused DEF system puting my truck into limp mode.
I currently have 3.0 gallons in the DEF tank according to Torque Pro. Once I see the DEF is "less than half full" in the message center, I fill it up at a truck island when it's convenient, it usually takes 2.5-3 gallons. I always wait until it's less than half never sooner. Also during winter weather I try to fill the tank just prior to freezing weather but not so full if fills the tube.
Army Ret, I don't want to drag this thread down a rat hole, but have to comment, I am the correct age. Tricky Dick saved my life, they did the lottery in 1972 for the class of '73, my number was 4. While I vehemently opposed the south east asia police action and protested hard against it, I always advocated for the folks that had to deal with that BS. A number of my friends gave the ultimate sacrifice. For those that don't know, people would sacrifice their kids, they would strap explosives to their body, have them walk up to a platoon of American soldiers with their hands in the air, when the kid got close enough they would explode the the kid. Like 7 year olds, it was an awful awful situation and those that were there should be honored to the highest extent.
I've heard the stories, Chuck. The Viet Nam vets were the forgotten ones because of the unpopularity of the war. Now they have the monument and get the recognition they deserve. It had to be hell. My hat's off to those guys. Brief hijack over. Back to business...

I'm going to wait until I see that message. I haven't seen it before. I'm getting closer to half full myself.

It's not a pop-up message, you have to go into the information menu>system chech to see the DEF status. I always record engine and idle hours at the time of fuel up and exhaust fluid status is right above it.

Thanks, I figured that. I'm gonna have to start and maybe do that. It sucks to be this **** but it is what it is. Another great tip thanks dirt. I use Trip A to record miles since last fillup, check to see how close truck mpg is to calculated and also gallons used. Trip B just keeps ticking up since I bought it.
I always waited until about 50 miles to empty so it would take two full jugs and I wouldn't have any left over. I only filled up about 4 or 5 times in the first 25k miles.
If you get to the 500 miles till limp mode you will get a message in the info center. I had the 500 mile till limp mode. I filled the tank and the message wouldn't go away. I tried everything even unhooking the batteries for a hour. to no avail. I had no choice but to hook up my 5th wheel and hit the road. 150 miles till limp mode the message went away. I was in Michigan on a trip with my wife. We live in Ca. so long way from home. Never had a problem again. now I know what to do. Just fill the tank and drive it and it will go away
Chuck B I served also. I was in the Navy on a air craft carrier. CVS 14 USS Ticonderoga.
I never fill until I get the less than 200 miles to empty message. Then I do a complete fill and upon key on, it resets. Has worked well for over 6 years.
Bone, we may not agree on some stuff but thanks for serving. I have a lot of respect for vets like you.
Back in the day there was a draft. I enlisted but most were told they had to serve. Then they came home we were hated for serving. It's nice to see things change for us vets.
Thank you

Yep I'm well aware of the draft. I remember signing up for possible service when I was in high school... Class of 84. My hat's off to you guys.
