I don't have any major issues with Sync 3, generally I like it a lot. BUT one thing that is not cool is every time I get in and my phone connects via bluetooth, my ringer volume on my phone goes to max, even once I've left the truck. I like to keep my phone ringer pretty low, so it's almost embarrassing in a quiet environment when my phone rings loud enough for the people across the street to hear... Curious if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks in advance. (iPhone SE, current updated version for what it's worth.)
Well this is just my luck. I updated to 3.0 on purpose last night not knowing there were issues with it, then I see this thread. I noticed today that every time I got back in the truck it would start on the FM radio and I would have to set it to iheart radio over and over, it never did that before. I figured I would just have to google how to preset the app on start and it would be good. I guess that isn't possible?

Not that I've seen. It's a software screw up that Ford apparently could not care less about. As stated earlier, the only remedy I've found is to turn the head unit off before shutting the truck down if you want the radio to remain on whichever function you used last.

This was discussed in another thread a while back and IIRC it's an iPhone thing. From what I can remember from the thread, Android users didn't have this issue. My XR does it as well. I always have my phone set to vibrate so I don't notice it until my alarm goes off at full volume in the morning. Definitely wakes you up though.
I have had this radio/can’t remember last setting issues since about December 2018. Took it to dealer in January to remedy. No such luck. They can’t do anything.
I had my 2017 with 45,000 miles at the dealership for inoperable hubs, engine over heating ($1,300 repair), the pleasure of getting my block heater wire disabled/cut and tire rotation. I asked about my sync issue and the dealership claims they have a call every 2 weeks about my truck and they always get a response “we are working on it” from the Ford engineers.
I'm glad I saw this before updating but I still have a problem. My 2017 SD apparently has 2.2. My wife decided Monday that we needed new phones. We had Samsung S8 and now have Samsung S10. My truck is having problems staying connected to the phone. I called Ford tech and they told me to update to 3.0. I feel like I'm caught in the middle now. I don't want to update and Best Buy probably doesn't have my old [phone anymore. I'm a technically challenged 70 year old as it is and not sure I can even do the update on my own.
Piece of cake to update. Go to the Ford side and download the update and follow the instructions to put it on a thumb drive.
Then turn Audio / HVAC off on the truck and prepare for a nice 30 minute or so cruise somewhere.
Insert thumb drive into one of the USB ports that are nearest to the instrument panel and update will start and complete by itself.
The update took about 20 minutes for me.

After reading about everyone having problems I'm not sure I want to do it now. I assume it's been working OK for you? I didn't think you could drive while it was updating. Thought you had to set and let it idle. 30 minute drive through the countryside sounds better.
My recommendation is don’t do it. There are not any significant updates to anything. Still have the 3 year old navigation/map database. Everything worked on the previous version for me. All I can notice on the upgrade is all my radio issues. This isn’t like a iPhone software update where some new feature is being introduced that you will actually use.
Stay with the current version till Ford decides to figure it out.

I was at the dealer a few days ago and told him I updated to sync 3.0, He said the 2019 they have on the lot has sync 3.3 and that is the current version and has bug fixes. I can't seem to find 3.3 when I go to my Ford pass update page.

My SIL is a tech at the Chicago assembly plant and he told me last night 3.3 is the latest version of sync. He said that's what the new vehicles have they are making. He is going to talk talk to one of the engineers today and find out if there would be a problem loading 3.3 into my truck. If not he will bring his laptop over and load it using IDS.
