Turn Signal Switch

I have installed the following turn signal switch. My problem is that the red indicator light on the steering column switch is on when switch is off (middle position) and indicator light is off when switch is on (lever up or down or hazards on). The wire that comes from the flasher (x) goes to power. Should this power be the RAD post on the ignition? Maybe I have the gray/black wire to the stop light switch reversed. Any help would be appreciated.

I think this might help. Most switches are wired the same way.

Guys -
Thank you FireFight and Bobj for the drawings. Very informative.
I cannot get the little green indicator lights on the unit to work. I am sure the bulb is good.
Everything else works just fine.
Would the problem be something with the ground?
(I know, I know, the guy's name is electricmaniac and he cannot figure this out? Its a long story.)

Ground plays a huge factor in these six volt systems. Also check to see if the bulb is 6 or 12 volt. I have a 12 volt bulb in mine and it doesn't work. Just haven't looked for a 6 volt bulb.

Thanks Bobj. Ran a wire from the strap that holds the unit to the column over to a good ground to see what might happen.
Green eyes light up! Need to scratch a bit of paint away where strap mounts on column, or use a star washer, or something to get good ground.
I would have thought green indicator lights were wired up through the turn lamps circuits. I guess not.

My dash panel had two holes covered with tape for left and right turn indicator lamps. I installed two light sockets. Both worked for left, right, and hazard indicator as should. This was with dash out of panel. Turned ignition on, light switch on and high beams on and the left light blinked for the right turn and the right turn blinked for left turn. Turned high beams off and the indicators went back to normal. Then I started to notice that the two dash lights were blinking along with the turn indicator. Then I held the dash against the metal part of the brake pedal (ground) and all seems to be OK. Hopefully tonight, I will get the wiper motor and wiper switch installed, get the dash in, and see what happens then. I ran the indicators off of the turn signal wires for the front turn signals.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Thank you all for the help. I don't know how I could have taken this whole project on without all of you and this wonderful website!
