Angry 534 Dinosaur

Need some expert advice to get this monster running.
Never had so many parts counter guys look at me all crazy as when I tell them I'm looking for ignition parts for my '70 534ci Ford C850 Pumper.
Getting lots of: "Five thirty HUH?" " You SURE?" etc etc etc. I'm assuming the points/condenser are under the plastic disc looking thing under the rotor? How is that removed? Do any other ford v-8's have parts that will interchange with this 534? Where can I find parts, Coming up dry once I type in "534" everywhere. Can't believe an engine used for so many years is SO hard to get parts for?

17 k miles, turns over fine, 12 volts to coil, NO fire....lots of strange (to me) switches, solenoids and other gizmos on and under it, wondering if it has safety switches etc, from the Ward Lafrance half.
VIN C85LUG3081

Ignition parts are the same for all Ford V8s except dual point high performance. You can also convert it to electronic ignition via an aftermarket setup such as:

https://pertronix.com/

Can you post a picture of that distributor and plastic disc? I don't see mention of it in a couple older SD ignition threads in the SD engine forum. (itself a ghost town...)

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum137/

Working on, with and keeping happy a 534 is a challenge.

Shoulda told the clucks at the parts counters you had a 1967 Mustang w/a 289, same ignition parts as your 534 dinosaur!

B8Q-12171-A .. Points (Motorcraft DP-12).

B7A-12200-A .. Rotor (Motorcraft DR-5).

C9AZ-12300-A .. Condenser (Motorcraft DC-13A).

Plastic disc is probably B8Q-12239-A .. Distributor Breaker Cover.

Anything else you need for this C850 Tilt Cab?

Plastic disk dust shield = just pry it off with your finger nail or small screw driver. About all of those were
thrown away. No mystery about 534's. Bill nailed that one "clucks" or putor geeks. Am I lucky, at my Napa
I would ask for this stuff for a 534 and he would say -what else- no computor no books he just goes to the
shelf and picks it period !!

Awesome, thanks for all the great info and diagram.
Sure I'll be needing more after I get it rolling...never messed with Fords, just picked up a Ford 4000 tractor today for my gal, so we're now a 3 ford family. Only took me 57 years! Ha
