Well a little update on my latest adventure with this truck. As I discussed in a different thread I spent a couple days chashing CAN comms issues. Which of course lead to deeper problems.
What started this was me loading a new tune into my truck. In talking with the tuner and follow the Workshop Service Manual I narrowed it to the PCM. I then talked with Ed at ficm repair and he helped me look at the charging system.
Now on the latest advice, tested the batteries, while a little low they still tested.ok. Now i.looked.at.my charging system. May have found the smoking gun (fingers crossed). I have a dual altnerator system on my truck which I think hid the issue. I just took the second alternator out of the system per Ford.Bulletin Q-91. And after the truck is warm, when I load tested test the alternator it is in the mid 12s at low idle and high 12s at high idle. So now I have ordered a new Bosch AL7606N 140 amp alternator to install.
I still need a new PCM but it works right now though it did finally throw a P0606 code. Also, I need to get the FICM tested, it it will probably be my next issue.
