Question on Wi-Fi

So I'm curious do I need to turn off the Wi-Fi feature

I'm pretty sure that on the 2017's and up with SYNC 3 only receive updates via wifi for Sync itself. Updates that require IDS still need to be done via IDS. 2016's and below dont receive anything by wifi.

My truck is a 2015 , Why does it allow me to hook up to my wifi at home then ? What is the purpose for my year having that?

It's meant for you to share your phone (or other devices) hotspot with others via the trucks Wi-Fi. The commercials back in the day advertised it as a way to keep track or your tools and whatnot.
