Misfires

Hey y'all, I just replaced the coils and plugs on my 2000 v10. But when I put it all back together the #6&7 cylinders misfire when I plug the MAF sensor back in. It did not do this before and I'm stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏 thank you 👍

Not sure about the older V10s, but on my 2008 3V it wouldn't be possible to wire them backwards the way the wires are setup.

Check the clips, as they get older they tend to break and no longer snap on properly. Sometimes you can get them to stick for a short time but they may rattle loose once you get the engine going for a bit.

Wires

Thanks, no the coil wires aren't hooked up wrong, and the clips are still good. It seems to only happen when the MAF sensor is plugged in. I need to remove the air intake to get to 6and7. It was running fine before I did the tune up and if I unplug the MAF sensor 6and7 start to fire again. I don't quite understand how the sensor could have gone bad just by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Did you clean the sensor with MAF cleaner? Anything other than MAF cleaner? Those MAF sensors are notoriously fragile. It's possible that it isn't working properly.

MAF cleaning

Thanks, and no I didn't do anything with the sensor but unplug it and plug it back in. I just ordered a new MAF sensor so hopefully I'll be back in business in a couple days, we shall see though.

I'm one of those believers that if it worked before you did something to it and now it doesn't work go back and undo what you did or check your work. Forget getting a maf sensor if it was running fine before you worked on it. Check the plugs you installed and make sure there are no cracks, damaged tips, or damaged coil boots. The maf sensor is not going to correct a cylinder issue unless you damaged it during your tune up.

Checked work

Thanks, I've checked my work a couple times over and switch out plugs and coils and all that. I can physically plug and unplug the MAF and watch it go from good to bad. I'm pretty sure I didn't damage the sensor, but I suppose I could have. That's why I ordered a new one. I've only owned the truck a couple months and I'm not sure what all has been done to it or when, so I'm just goin through the basics.

Do both cylinders go into a dead miss or a random misfire? Unplugging the maf just sets the computers parameters to a default state and the truck will run on those parameters. It shouldn't be affecting just two cylinders.

At this point I would get a noid light set and check to see if coil and injectors are being triggered from the computer. I still can't understand how the maf can kill two cylinders, especially if they were working fine before the work was done.
