I have been searching for the short in my truck for months. If it sits for a couple days, the batteries sometimes go dead.
Generally, there is a power draw from the Body Security Module (BSM) for about 1-1/2 minutes. FINALLY figured out that sometmes the power draw is continuous, e.g., the pwer draw does not shut off after 1-1/2 minutes.
My guess is that there is a relay somewhere and that the relay is failing.
Not sure about '05 but on a '08 there is a smart module behind the passenger kick panel. It quite a few harnesses plugged into it. I know it controls the interior lights, door light switches, and shifter interlock. I had one go bad on a '08 and the interior lights stayed on, the door ajar warning displayed for all four doors, and I could not get it out of park with the ignition switch on. Replaced module and all went back to normal. Don't know if this helps you are not but check it anyway.
Yeah, I need to figure out where it is as I am sure it is what is causing my dead battery.
Maybe I can find a video of exactly where the module is located.
While I can live without all security stuff for some reason removing the BSM fuse takes out my 4 wheel drive (WTF). I do not see anything wrong with the BSM fuse in except that it usually continuously draws power and does not shut off when it supposed to.
If anyone have a picture or video where it is located, that would be a big help.
Thanx
If it's the same as my '08 you can't miss it. Remove the passenger front kick panel and you will see it. It is the box that has fuses and a ton of wiring connectors plugged into it. It takes two screws to remove. I believe they are 7mm. Once those two screws are removed it will slide out of it's slot in the body. You will have fun twisting and squirming to get those connectors off.
Lots of different locations I guess as some say behind radio, some say under dash, and you say on passenger side. Gonna have to see where it may be in a few days - after cutting and baling hay.
Why in the world would the 4x4 be tied into the BSM fuse.
