just picked up this f250 . needs coolant hoses badly. there is a bypass hose right next to the lower inlet hose. same diameter. Sharp 90 into a very short inlet. Is there a way to install a new hose without pulling the water pump? I tried letting the hose set in the sun to soften it up and coating the ends with soap to make it more slippy. no luck. someone suggested soaking the hose in hot water to soften it. need you ideas and/or shortcuts. Thanks...Roger
id prefer obviously to not remove any major component unless its the only option
With the oil filter out of the way I can't see how there is a problem doing this. I am not doubting you. Just wondering if you got the correct hose or if it is not made correctly. I'm glad you posted this as mine looks like it could blow anytime. Electronic cleaner aka contact cleaner works good getting hoses on and it dries immediately. You need to work quick when you spray it in the hose because of this so spray one side at a time. I need to order a hose so let me know what happens. Sandy

yep, you have the sizes correct, although the one coming off was 1 7/8 by 1 3/4. i'm sure its from slight stretching. not sure what the electric cleaner does or how you apply it but this hose seems to demand simultaneous effort to install. yeah, the one from the store looked the same size at both ends. we're having a heat wave on the west coast so i'm trying to use the heat to my advantage. currently i've forced one end over a 2" rattle can top and am using a regular screw clamp to hold it. then i've squeezed both ends together and put a clamp to hold them together. hope is they'll set up a bit and with a little vasoline slide on. can't work on this tomorrow so, hopefully, wed it will all come together. i'll update this post. if it's not too much of a hassle let me know how that electric cleaner works.... thank for feedback.
well, i think i'm done. it was a bxxxx. Hose set in sun in clamps as mentioned but there is very little wiggle room to install both ends simultaneously. i worked for a long time using every tool i could think of to create enough room for a screw clamp to secure both sides. yes, there was some collapse to the center of the 90 that worried me about flow restriction. took it to my mechanic for piece of mind. he said it was ok. perhaps taking off the oil cooler would be better, you make your own decision. ford didn't do us any favors with this design,
