So first of all I read the manual and the links that FordPass sent me too and called att. So this question is for users of ford hotspot.
anyone know the range and bandwidth from a hardware prospective?
Would like to hear stories from folks who used this feature ....it was great from my back yard I could connect to the truck in the driveway.....it was terrible since it only works if you are sitting in the truck.
please advise
att does not know and neither does ford , they finger point to each other.
Following...going on a road trip later this year and planning on activating the hotspot shortly before so I can get some work done while taking breaks with the family. I’m hoping I can still be connected if I’m sitting over at a table in the shade or something instead of having to stay in the truck.
Drives me nuts that I can’t be on a call while also using my cell for hotspot, but no providers can support that currently.
I activated my 3-month trial prior to a 7-hour drive to Moab. After a little over 3 hours of streaming Netflix, my kids had consumed the allotted 3 GB. So much for that. Probably more of a business tool than an entertainment tool. Too bad.

Same here. Kids and steaming music and videos ate it up on a road trip pretty quick!
It’s not about the phone, but the service provider (AT&T, Verizon, etc.). I could use the soft phone on my laptop, or probably some sort of VOIP, but those don’t tend to have as good of clarity in my experience and could also slow down the webex meetings I spend entirely too much time on. Keeping them separate, with the laptop on the truck’s modem and my cell phone managing the call, should in theory be the best solution and if it works 50’ from the truck and without the motor running then I think I’d be all set. I’d still love to hear from folks with real experience, otherwise I’ll start the free trial in the next few weeks and test it out.
Will this work if the ignition is not “on”? I haven’t been able to get it to work without the truck being in the accessory mode.
Same problem here. Been using for 4 months. Good range. All over camper when truck parked near by but I really wish it could be powered by itself without all the accessories also running.

Correct. Truck accessories need to be running. As for functionality, my son can stream Hulu on his iPad while I am listening to apple radio. The hotspot works really well as long as the AT&T coverage is good. I haven’t done any speed tests between devices connected to the hotspot to confirm send/receive bandwidth.
I use my cell phones hotspot and make calls and browse web all the time all at the same time. I have unlimited data with ATT so using the cell phones hotspot is much easier and saves me money.
Had 500 mile trip in May, 2 of us in truck. 2 Iphones, 1 Ipad. I upgraded AT&T plan from 10gb to 15gb per month for $15.00. After 400 miles I got a warning that I was almost out of GB 'Do you want to Purchase More?'
Going back to using IPhone Hot Spot, It's unlimited.
