My entire reservoir has recently been coated onto my front end steering components, so it's looking like I've at least got a bad seal in the power steering assembly. Anybody have a favorite reseal kit or parts number list, or should I just go with new houses and a reman'd pump? There doesn't seem to be a lot of clear, exactly related help on the YouTubes and whatnot, so this is apparently an easier job than it looks or simply not something people bother to talk about much =)
My shop will do it all for about $450 in 90 minutes, but I'd like to just do it myself for the experience if I can find enough info to comfortably tackle the issue. I've got myself in bad corners before when I just start unbolting things without knowing what I'm doing =P
Do I even need to pull the pump if I just want to reseal the hoses? Can I pull it out the bottom of the truck without taking out the fan/fan shroud or unbolting the pitman arm?
I didn't see anything directly related to this in the tech folder, so forgive me if I missed an obvious helper topic somewhere.
I had a tough time finding info on PS too. I lost about 6 oz of PS fluid but I never figured out where it leaked from. As you said, with the engine running, it sprays that stuff everywhere. It looked worse than it really was. I wiped all the fluid off the suspension and what not, then drove the truck again. Fast, slow, turning, hard braking...no leak. Topped off the fluid and have driven the truck about 300 miles now and still, no leak. Not sure what happened. I was bleeding my brake system in the driveway when I discovered the puddle of PS fluid under the front end. I'm just going to have to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. Sorry, I'm not much help on your issue, just odd that it happened to someone else too. Mine happened last week. Good luck. Here are a couple vids I found.
