I believe it is a factory high idle control for use with a pto, try putting the transmission in park or neutral with the parking brake set and turning it on. If it works and is what I think it is, your ide speed should jump.
Agreed with Jschon, Auxiliary Idle Control, AIC. So you can set the idle speed up a bit when you need more output from the alternator. Jump charging another vehicle, winching, fully effective AC when parked, etc.
The more common version which we see once in a while has an LCD screen to show what RPM you selected.
Well thank you. I had assumed it was a monitoring device, and never thought of turning it on.
Pressing the POWER button turns it ON and OFF, with the red light next to it reflecting the status.
When initially turned ON, the other two lights light for a short period and then go out.
Pressing the other buttons did nothing of note. If you hold them down for a period, the lights come on for a short period.
As suggested, I applied the parking brake and pressed the buttons and detected no change. It takes a long time to warm up, so it may have never got out of initial warmup process cycle.
The buttons are labeled RPM CONTROL and CHARGE PROTECT, if you could not read them from the picture.
Thanks again. I did a search on Auxiliary Idle Control and watched a youtube on the function and installation of this accessory. Suspect my emergency brake light does not work which prevents the AIC from working.
