where are you going to find a 4.0 v8?
in any event, a different transmission will be needed.
Ranger engines have different bell housing patterns for each engine family.
most engine swaps require using the new engines ECU/PCM, it's kinda confusing to run a 4 cylinder engine with a 6 (or 8) cylinder ECU.
there are lots of write ups about swaps here and elsewhere.
