I think i will keep it original for now. 2 inch drums in front and 1 3/4 in back. What are some good brands for brake parts is Centric any good?
Front brakes do ~ 70% of the work. Based on that, I bought full cast drums on the front axle for my slick, not composite. They cost a little more. Some people recommend a light skim cut even with new drums to ensure drum surface is perfectly round. Inspect the brake backing plate shoe pads for gouges. I would recommend a Shop Manual when working with brakes, there are a lot of moving parts, and the likelihood of assembly errors in the past is pretty high. There is a definite learning curve to drum brake systems.
Might consider experimenting with shoes. Your wife will understand! The "best" longest lasting linings may not have particularly good stopping characteristics. Linings designed for racing don't work well until they get hot. Sometimes a softer (less expensive) faster wearing lining will have better stopping ability. Need all new spring kits.
I don't buy glued linings, although they are said to be good ... Riveted make more sense to me. Shoe linings need a break-in period just like disc pads, or stopping ability will be poor.
