Never thought much about it but when I got my truck, it had two keys, both work the ignition. Never tried them in the door until recently and they don't seem to work.
Did these trucks come with separate ignition and door keys? Any way to get keys form the dealer with the VIN and proof of ownership?
Thanks,
Pretty sure late ones had one key for all. My 10/95 has only one key, I rekeyed it for cheap. I have four OE Ford keys and two off-brand spares I needed in a pinch.
No clue what it ran to rekey, maybe a C-note. That was two years back nearly.
These trucks came from the factory with 2 keys. Both worked for the ignition and door locks. My guess is that the original tumbler bit the dust, and the PO installed a new tumbler which came with new keys.
Since my truck has power locks with keyless entry, the door tumblers have seen significantly less use than the ignition tumbler. The key and ignition have worn together over the years, and the worn key has some trouble unlocking the doors sometimes. I know for a fact that it’s the right key though.
So I am just an idiot. Went and tried both keys again and they both work. Just needed some jiggling to get them to turn. Have keyless factory alarm and never used them.
