When the AC clutch pulley broke it also took out the shaft that the clutch coil is pressed on to. So now I am looking to buy a new AC Compressor fairly soon but not sure what to buy. Could someone point me to a decent aftermarket compressor that isn't going to cost me an arm and leg? Anything else I should replace? I would like to have everything before I take it to the shop to be repaired. Truck is a 2001 F-250 with the V10. Four wheel drive also.
Just did my 2000 F250 last spring, it is now blowing ice cold. Got all my stuff fr www.RockAuto.com. Nowadays never buy a "rebuilt" anything, specially an AC compressor. RockAuto has a new "kit" w/ comp, receiver and orifice tube for less that $150 delivered. I used a Denso compressor, but suspect the 4 Seasons comp will work fine.
Don't forget to splash some PAG 46 oil in the system.
If it was me, and the evaporator was still OEM 2001, I would spring for a new evaporator, only $40 more. After almost 20 years the evap fins will be full of crud & probably corroded to the point of almost leaking. The good thing about your F250 is the evaporator is not an all day job of pulling the dash like most modern vehicles; R&R of your evap is less than 1 hour of work start-to-finish once you have AC lines bled.
My truck has been very good to me these last 17 years. Not counting routine maintenance, I have only had to replace the fuel pump and do a drive shaft lube.
