Still running it, no issues. Just drained it all and filled it again after pulling the motor for heads etc.

Thanks for the update. I didn't expect to hear of you having any issues.

Personally I do not have any concerns over the NF formulation, but I am still anxious to hear Shell's response.

My truck is running hotter than normal since the engine work. The only thing that has changed is I added coolant return lines and installed a new Motorcraft 192 degree thermostat for the heck of it.
I suspect I need to pull the radiator out and really clean it well. There are some small bugs in the top exposed fins of my Mishimoto radiator. Yesterday I was towing my boat and was seeing 200-208 ECT and 208-215 EOT with 85-88 degree air temperatures at 70mph which is quite a bit higher than I usually see even when it’s 100 degrees or more. Kind of aggravating after all the work I’ve done. All I can think is the radiator needs a good cleaning.

15 minutes to swap out the new thermostat with the old one and see if the temps come back down.

I’m going to clean the intercooler and radiator with this and see if it helps. My buddies use it on their radiators after mudding at the pit and it foams out the crud from the fins. There are a few YouTube videos showing how well it works, I’ll make one and post it up.

AutoJim was a member on TDS and was one of the designers of the cooling system on the 6.0. He advocated cleaning the heat exchangers on a regular basis, especially when you have the radiator our. Ever since he posted that 18 years ago I’ve done that when the opportunity exists, and sometimes even when everything is still installed. It always amazes me on all the vehicles the dirty water that comes off.

I've not used that particular cleaner, but they work well.

I wouldn’t do step 2 due to the acid but the Nu-Calgone works great, is non acidic and biodegradeable.

I just did my home condenser a few weeks ago with the foamy.

I’ve even used a Dawn solution in one of my garden sprayers per AutoJim and it’s worked well. I had to chuckle at the post and video as I have the non-coated Mag cleaner hanging on the fence to do a few of the heat exchangers. My 16 year old east coast units have a lot of oxidation and I was going to try it to get off the oxide rather then go through the cost of new exchangers. I already have a new radiator.

It also should be mentioned that Sean’s often recommended Simple Green Aluminum Aircraft Cleaner also works well in this situation, although no foaming action.

shell's reply for rotella ELC NF

Your 2007 Ford F250 6.0 Diesel calls for an engine coolant that meets the Ford spec: Ford WSS-M97B51-A1. The Rotella ELC NF was not designed to meet that Ford spec. We recommend using ShellZone Multi-Vehicle Antifreeze/Coolant 50/50 -- suitable coolant for your vehicle.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

Jeff Santos

In retrospect, you should have asked about the International VT365 (same engine as the 6.0L).

The current OEM thermostats do not perform the same as the ones that came with our trucks. I installed a new Motorcraft thermostat recently and temps were a bit higher than the original thermostat that had 150k miles. Same temps that you describe actually.
