Does anyone know what size, length and style bolts held the step (forward of the rear fender aft of the cab) to its bracket and to the fender? Currently I have a handfull of 1/4-20s with big washers in all them from the PO. Just wondering what is original and if mine has been further monkey'd with.
Thanks.
5/16 x 18 don't know of any 1/4 x 20 used anywhere.
Some 1/4" - 20 hardware was used on the Cruise-O-Matic if a truck was so equipped. Governor inspection cover. Governor to body. Main control #V2 to trans case.
Also rear license plate bracket to sill on trucks with no rear bumper. And the one type of spare tire carrier (inside box) bracket uses two bolts to body that are 1/4" - 20 x 5/8".
Just some examples. But, there isn't a lot of them.
Bolt, running board to fender // Bolt, running board to front bracket // Bolt, running board to rear bracket.
I have only running board to front bracket and running board to fender. There is no "rear bracket". Maybe I should have mentioned its a short bed. The running board to front bracket fit two 5/16 x 18 nicely, thanks Christmas. The fender looks like its been patched, and been stuffed with quarter-20s, wondering what originally went there.
Yes the taillight and licence plate brackets are 1/4-20. Thanks Chad

Reason: addition
They are 3/8 Inch SAE National Coarse with a carriage head. About 1 Inch long. The nuts have an attached or one piece washer. I just replaced mine two days ago. The two bolts under the edge of the front cross member are fine thread with a lock nut. No washers.
Wow, thanks Convoy Driver! And thanks for the picture, that "backing plate" I guess, is what I could see under the thick undercoating that made me think it was a patch. Really appreciate it!
