Neutral switch interlock question

1991 F-250, 5 speed. I literally have to push the clutch to the floor, and then push it into the firewall. Is there a way to adjust the switch so that I don't need to apply so much pressure on the pedal?

No adjustment on the switch, but I bet if you look under the dash where the clutch master cylinder rod attaches to the pedal arm it is worn out. Do a search for “heim joint mod”. You’ll be glad you did!

My alum bracket that houses the brake and clutch pedals was cracked, and flexing all over the place. Took it off and welding it solved the problem. Larry

Worn out bushings in the pedal box, worn out bushing on the clutch pedal arm and firewall flex can all contribute to what you describe.

I have none of the above described issues. Everything is rock solid. Guess I'll just have to live with it. Thanks everyone for the input!

One more thing you can do is to see if the arm the clutch safety switch rides on is adjustable. Some of them were on the older trucks. By 92 they were all non adjustable but I don't know about 91. If your problem may be the clutch safety switch you could also tie a string around the clutch safety switch in such a was as to keep it from moving right up to it's stop on the firewall when the clutch is depressed. I did that with mine while I was trying to figure out an intermittent no crank no start situation. I tied it to a bracket under the dash to limit it's forward movement. My problem turned out to be something else but it did seem to reduce the incidence of no cranking and not starting.
