Looking at an aftermarket full grill guard...either a Fusion or Fab Fours for my 19 CCLB. Most come with the powder-coat, though reading some of the threads here, after a few years they might start showing some rust in spots - depending on use. I have not priced anywhere yet but was thinking that ordering it bare and then having it Line-Xed..... thoughts? Thanks👍
I am a fan of doing that. I plan to line-x my bumpers and steps when I can get around to it, maybe even the chrome part of my grille. Looks good from what I’ve seen.
OP, you may have heard me say that before on the forum. My last diesel (GMC 3500) had Fabfours bumpers on it. After the first year of having them mounted, the rocks chips turned to rust and the same happened on my nerf bars. I called my local Line-x and they wanted close to $750 for just the front bumper to which I laughed on the phone and hung up. Although I would have preferred to have them do it, I ended up grinding the rust off and epoxy priming them in my garage. After that, I coated them myself with Raptorliner and never had a single issue for the 7 years I owned the truck. The coating was still had a shine until the day I traded it in. Having said that, I would have preferred the Line-X as it was a bit of work turning my garage into a masked off paint booth. However, with their local price to me wasn't going to happen.
As of current, I am looking myself at the Fusion bumper with defender grill. If I go that route, it will be ordered in raw steel and Line-X applied as the painted versions are for SEMA builds and mall crawlers, but not for day to day use. Ordering it in the raw also gives me the ability to weld on additional light mounting tabs where I want them before coating.
I won't ever put a powder coated item on a vehicle again.
That's interesting I had Fab Four bumpers on my old Duramax and never a single spot of rust anywhere. They saw plenty of rock abuse as well as a high speed deer collision left them unscathed.
I haven't heard of any other Fab Four bumpers rusting either. Thanks for sharing as I want to put a set on my SD but this gives me reason to pause.
My first concern with rhino lining any area that is going get bug guts is how do you clean all of the crevices? Otherwise the look is fantastic to me but cleaning I would think be a major PITA?

This one definitely rusted especially underneath towards the weld seams and surprisingly I do not live in the salt belt either (Rocky Mountains). Every single rock chip I had was down to bare metal and started to rust like clockwork. I am not sure who does their powder coating process but it was not impressive for the money you spend. But I have also had Ranch hand and Nfab products do the exact same thing on the exterior and interior. After a friend in the local Jeep community turned me on to bedlining these bumpers, rock rails and nerf bars, I will continue to use it until the industry come out with something more durable that the cheap powder coat.
In regard to cleaning, you can request Line-X adapt their spray pattern to a smoother texture. I have seen this first hand and also practiced a but with the Raptorliner to get a more smooth texture. I pressure washer and a little Simple Green cleans it up easily.
